HOME green tips

GREENER HOME GREENER PLANET

Put off cutting grasses and spent flowers until spring growth emerges and enjoy their winter beauty as they capture the snow and frost. Bonus: The grassy seed heads help feed the birds.

– Mulch leaves while you mow. Clear gutters of debris, and check roof for shingle/flashing needs.

– Keep plastic bags out of recycle bin (see recycling bins “dirty dozen” for more to leave out), which bind up sorting equipment, and instead bring them to CHARM (Center for Hard to Recycle Materials), see ecocycle.org/charm, or participating grocery stores.

GREENER BITE

– Satisfy your sweet tooth with more nutritious and/or unrefined sweetened Dandies pumpkin marshmallows, Lilie’s orange dark chocolate bars and Little Secrets peanut butter candies. http://deliciousliving.com/products-we-love/5-spooky-sweets-halloween#slide-0-field_images-293131

LATEST DENVER/BOULDER MARKET NEWS

DENVER:  Cooling continues for Denver. The housing market in the Denver metro and surrounding area continued its cooling trend in September. As inventory levels and prices remain steady, the market is seeing a slow shift to one that is more pleasing to the buyer.
Inventory was up 2% compared to last year, and
inventory levels remained at 8 weeks, higher as compared to the summer months, but still well below the national average of approximately 12 weeks. http://www.recolorado.com/pages/article?tags=news

BOULDER:  Inventory holding tight in third quarter in Boulder County. In September new Listings were down 8 percent for single family homes but increased 12 percent for townhouse-condo properties. The Median Sales Price was up 2 percent for single family homes and 19 percent for townhouse-condo properties with continuing decreased days on market. With positive economic news coming from many angles, there are no imminent factors to prepare for beyond the typical seasonal drop-off. From the mouths of market analyzing pundits, we are in the midst of one of the healthiest housing markets in the past 15 years. http://www.baraonline.com/sites/bara/files/statistics/SeptMI.pdf

As the kids head back to school, we tend to see a seasonal slowing of the housing market. This August was no exception. According to REcolorado’s monthly report on the residential real estate market, signs of the traditional end-of-summer softening were seen in the Denver metro and surrounding area. Prices dipped a bit, the number of sold listings decreased, and homes = stayed on the market longer. http://www.recolorado.com/pages/article?tags=news

Reduceor eliminate need for disposable plastic bottles by using a water filter and reusable container.

LATEST DENVER/BOULDER MARKET NEWS

DENVER:  Denver Sales Remain Strong as more Homes enter Market. Home prices in May were up four percent month over month and nine percent as compared to last year. The average sale price of a single family detached home climbed to $448,804, three percent higher than last month, and eight percent higher than a year ago. Condos and townhomes price increases as well, reaching $297,930, which was four percent higher than last month and a 14 percent year over year increase. Homes continue to sell quickly, spending an average of just 24 days on market. recolorado.com/news

BOULDER:  Same is the Sound in Boulder County Market. New Listings in April were down 9.5 percent for single family homes and 21.9 percent for townhouse-condo properties. The Median Sales Price was up 18.2 percent to $582,250 for single family homes and 28.4 percent to $391,500 for townhouse condo properties. There have been no striking changes to curtail what should be a decent run of home sales over the next several months. Mortgage rates remain stubbornly and wonderfully low. The unemployment rate remains at or near 5.0 percent for eight straight months, and wages have increased for a great many people. New construction has been slow, and that may be a damper on sales, but the general outlook remains strong. baraonline.com/MonthlyIndicators416.pdf
