HOME green tips

GREENER HOME GREENER PLANET

Fill low areas in the yard or next to the foundation with compacted soil. Spring rains can cause yard flooding, which can lead to foundation flooding and damage, and insect infestation.

– Harvest spring rains with a rain barrel and save up to 1300 gallons of water and usage during the summer months, while enriching your lawn, garden and plants.

– Consider installing energy saving seasonal awnings and reduce heat gain up to 65% in south facing windows and 77% in the east. Awnings can also help protect furniture, floors and rugs from sun damage.

HEALTHY BITE
– Snack on a handful of anti-inflammatory, high in vitamin E, magnesium rich sunflower seeds for a daily calm.

PLAN TO SELL? MORE TIPS…

– Open up each space, including closets, and remove stuff/bulky furniture. Stage rooms with one color.

– Add tech touches like a built-in USB wall charger for $20.00, or a luxury motion sensor faucet to bath or kitchen sinks for under $100.00.

LATEST DENVER/BOULDER MARKET NEWS

DENVER:  Home sales soar in March. March brought 6,247 new listings to the market, a 38 percent increase as compared to last month, and three percent more than this time last year. However, new listings did little to ease the inventory crunch. Eager home buyers quickly scooped up the active inventory and, in the process, sent home sales soaring. In March, 4,140 homes sold, a 46 percent month-over-month increase and one percent higher than compared to this time last year, http://www.recolorado.com/pages/article?tags=news

BOULDER:  Hot housing market: Boulder County home buyers are lining up for less inventory. The number of available houses for sale in the county is at a 10-plus-year low, jolting appreciation, creating bidding wars and pricing some people out in the process, http://www.timescall.com/business/local-business/ci_27614117/hot-housing-market-boulder-county-home-buyers-inventory

LATEST MARKET NEWS

DENVER:  Housing prices remain strong in October“With inventory levels remaining tight in October, the market stayed nearly as competitive as it was during the summer selling season,” said Kirby Slunaker, president and CEO of Metrolist. “Home prices climbed a bit, and days on market remained low, indicating continued demand,” http://www.recolorado.com/pages/article?tags=news

BOULDER:  Home Sales Flat, Median Price Increases… Local residential real estate sales continue strong posting a 10 percent gain in September coupled with a 7 percent increase in the median price. For the first nine months of the year home sales are exactly even with last year and the median price is up 4.8 percent… With three quarters of the year completed, the sales are on a pace to match the record of 18,690 homes sold last year but combined with the increase in the median price, the total volume should be right around $6 billion which will be a new record. And, as a reminder, many buyers and sellers think the market dries up over the next few months but almost 40 percent of the annual sales occur from October through March, http://bizwest.com/home-sales-flat-median-price-increases

– Mulch leaves while you mow. Clear gutters of debris, and check roof for shingle/flashing needs.

– Keep plastic bags out of recycle bin (see recycling bins “dirty dozen” for more to leave out), which bind up sorting equipment, and instead bring them to CHARM (Center for Hard to Recycle Materials), see ecocycle.org/charm, or participating grocery stores.

LATEST DENVER/BOULDER MARKET NEWS

DENVER:  Cooling continues for Denver. The housing market in the Denver metro and surrounding area continued its cooling trend in September. As inventory levels and prices remain steady, the market is seeing a slow shift to one that is more pleasing to the buyer.
Inventory was up 2% compared to last year, and
inventory levels remained at 8 weeks, higher as compared to the summer months, but still well below the national average of approximately 12 weeks. http://www.recolorado.com/pages/article?tags=news

BOULDER:  Inventory holding tight in third quarter in Boulder County. In September new Listings were down 8 percent for single family homes but increased 12 percent for townhouse-condo properties. The Median Sales Price was up 2 percent for single family homes and 19 percent for townhouse-condo properties with continuing decreased days on market. With positive economic news coming from many angles, there are no imminent factors to prepare for beyond the typical seasonal drop-off. From the mouths of market analyzing pundits, we are in the midst of one of the healthiest housing markets in the past 15 years. http://www.baraonline.com/sites/bara/files/statistics/SeptMI.pdf
